Swimming in Waterfalls….
The pools at Erawan weren’t particularly crowded, but we didn’t have them to ourselves either. Sadly, living out the fantasy of discovering a remote pool and bathing in the glory of nature still requires a fair bit of imagination, or a level of adventurousness that I haven’t quite reached. As it was, we shared the pool with a rotating cast of Thais and tourists.
The Thais swim fully clothed, making me feel downright immodest in my bikini. Men with tripods took pictures of me and my tour companions swimming in our near-nude state. Maybe we will be used as examples of the loose morals of Westerners, or maybe they just think we are weird.
As we were leaving, a girl from our guest house was bawling her eyes out on a rock, oblivious to the efforts of her friend to comfort her. One of the Australian ladies in my group said she had been doing the exact same thing the night before. The staff of the house had asked the Australian lady to go check on her and make sure she wasn’t sick. She said she was fine.
