Taxi Scam
At the bus station I was approached by a man saying “Taxi? Taxi?” I know that is usually a bad sign, but I asked “meter taxi?” and he said yes. In fact I asked 4 or 5 times as we walked to his car. But then when I got in, he didn’t turn on the meter.
“Can you please turn on the meter?” I asked. He grinned, revealing sparse yellow teeth. He held up four fingers and said “400 Baht.” I said “Are you insane?”
He offered to go down to 300, but I wouldn’t go higher than 200, so he said “bye bye! bye bye!” and kicked me out of the car. Well geez Mr. Taxi don’t say it’s a meter taxi if it’s not, and you won’t waste any time on me.
Just because I’m white and blonde doesn’t mean I don’t know how much a taxi ride to my own apartment costs. (It cost 195 baht including tolls)
